What do you know? Who needs to know? When are you telling them?

What do you know? Who needs to know? When are you going to tell them?

These were the questions that resonated for me this week while providing leadership and resilience training to a group of highly effective managers on their own journeys. When we consider the anxiety that can be caused by information management these three questions help. Keep asking these questions and you will stay informed, enable assistance and keeps others informed.

If you want to improve your leadership capacity and your resilience then consider these key elements and their benefits because life is a bit like a marathon.

1. Develop Emotional Intelligence (EQ)Action: Practice active listening and manage emotional responses to improve communication.Example: During a negotiation you listen to a client’s concerns, address frustrations, and rebuild trust, shifting the conversation towards a solution.

Why It Matters: Enhances relationships and makes it easier to guide others during difficult interactions.

2. Set a Clear VisionAction: Identify long-term goals and break them into actionable steps.Example: A leader sets a vision for sustainable aviation, breaks down milestones like reducing carbon emissions, and aligns the team. Why It Matters: A clear vision keeps everyone focused on long-term success and fosters motivation.

3. Lead by ExampleAction: Model the behaviours you wish to see in others, such as integrity and consistency.Example: A manager works alongside their team during busy periods, maintaining positivity and high standards, which boosts morale and productivity. Why It Matters: Encourages others to adopt the same approach, creating a culture of accountability.

4. Build ResilienceAction: Reframe setbacks as learning opportunities and practice stress management.Example: After losing a major client, a sales professional adapts their strategy based on feedback, targeting similar clients more effectively. Why It Matters: Helps individuals recover from challenges quickly, maintaining progress.

5. Embrace AdaptabilityAction: Stay open to change and adjust strategies when new challenges arise.Example: A manager learns a new CRM system and trains their team, adapting processes to enhance efficiency. Why It Matters: Ensures readiness to adopt new tools and strategies, creating a competitive edge.

6. Focus on Self-CareAction: Maintain a healthy work-life balance to prevent burnout.Example: An executive sets work boundaries, prioritizes exercise, and spends time with family, maintaining energy and focus. Why It Matters: Enables sustained high performance and resilience over the long term.
